Photography Choices for Your Wedding

Finding the perfect photographer for your wedding day requires some degree of research on the part of the engaged couple.  Once you check references and decide that you trust that the photographer you have chosen will suit your needs, the big decision is the kind of photography you desire.  Do you want the traditional color photos?  Or are you looking for the more artistic photos?  What about Chrome photos?  The choices are very personal and will say something about you as a couple, so don’t rush into a decision.  That wedding album will become a family heirloom one day.

Traditional Color Photographs will capture the images of that day in a special way.  One will almost feel as if they could walk right into the moment.  Vivid colors can take your breath away–the radiant bride in her magnificent wedding gown, the lovely flower arrangements and the beauty of the sanctuary.  On the down side, brilliant color photographs can sometimes diminish the artistic quality of the same image taken in black and white.  Color, while lovely, can also be a distraction to the photograph.

Black and White Photographs can offer more artistic qualities to photographs.  There is something very stunning about the lack of color.  The black and white image can be very powerful and arresting.  It can appear very romantic and less posed–more natural.  It commands your full attention and when viewing it, you will recognize the depth, feeling, and meaning that ooze from the photograph.  A black and white photograph has the ability to capture the mood in a way that color photographs cannot.  Perhaps the nostalgic feel to it reminds us of portraits of days gone by.  An alternative to choosing black and white or color is to have “the best of both worlds.”  It has become popular amongst photographers to start out with a black and white image and then add “a splash of color.”  Perhaps you have seen these.  It can make it as unique as you want it to be.

Chrome Photographs tend to be either loved or hated.  Choosing whether to use chrome photography is, of course, a matter of opinion.  Keep in mind, however, that by very definition, chrome imaging has a very stark, cold feeling.  And because weddings are anything but cold, you might want to steer away from using this type of imaging for your wedding.  Chrome can be awesome and draw one’s complete attention.  But unless you have hired a genius photographer that knows tricks with his camera, you may be disappointed in the final results.  However, if you’re looking for a bold statement this may be the perfect choice.

Therefore, whether you decide to go traditional or artistic; color, black and white, chrome, or black and white with a splash of color; the ceremony held in a sanctuary or on location somewhere; your goal is to capture the most precious moments in tender detail.
