Wedding Photography at Fort McHenry, Maryland

Looking for an innovative and thought-provoking backdrop for your wedding photographs?  Fort McHenry, a star-shaped fort surrounded by a deep, dry moat is positioned on the Locust Point peninsula at the mouth of the Baltimore Harbor. Moved by the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the battalions of the Royal British Navy, an amateur poet named Francis Scott Key, wrote the Star Spangled Banner in 1814. Key’s inspiration is now the American national anthem.

Fort McHenry is a standing stone in American History.  Its soil continues to envelope yet unknown archeological treasures.  Beneath its surface, memories of lives once lived are swathed in the arms of the earth.  For years, Fort McHenry stood proud, the impenetrable guardian of American independence. Fort McHenry symbolizes strength and represents the spirited union of those who defended America’s shores from the rule of foreign countries.

Now a tranquil National Park, this 43-acre parcel of land reveals a part of American history that began in 1776.  In addition, its star-shaped walls evolved from a design that dates back much further than the beginning of American history. Its style is derived from mid-15th century Italy and was employed by Michelangelo in his design of the defensive earthworks in Florence, Italy.  Its medieval influence remains strongly felt inside the walls of Fort McHenry.

Fort McHenry is composed of a number of interconnected parts including a sixty foot high earthen battery wall. The restored barracks now honour through exhibits many military and historical artefacts.  A well-kept trail runs along the water’s edge, affording spectacular views of ships entering and leaving the busy Maryland harbour.

Destination weddings represent distinctive aspects of the bride’s and groom’s personalities. Weaving characteristics together with periods of history can produce a new and unique tapestry from which to view a new beginning in life. Including a favourite period of history threads a sense of timelessness into the wedding ceremony.  This intangible feeling is reflected in the expressions of the bride and groom in the photographs.

If you are searching for the perfect venue for your marriage vows and identify strongly with patriotism, independence and American history, or are a sailor at heart, Fort McHenry could be your answer.
