Maryland Weddings; History in the Making

Why not make your own history in one of the regions richer in American history than any other? The state of Maryland embraces an exceptional array of geographical choices for a wedding ceremony.  From seaside lowlands and rugged mountain peaks to lush green meadows, Maryland acreage is veritable panorama of backdrops.  Spanned by rolling hills filled with sweet grass and grazing horses, Maryland gives your wedding photographer multiple settings to capture the story of your vows to each other.

Wedding Venue Settings

The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States.  It is carved into the shore of the Atlantic Ocean and hugs the borders of both Maryland and Virginia. More than 150 rivers drain into it, including the Potomac River.

The bay is home to two bridges: The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which joins Sandy Point (near Annapolis) to Kent Island, and the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel, which connects Virginia Beach to Cape Charles. Chesapeake is an Algonquian word used to convey the idea that there is a village at the mouth of a big river.

Mount Vernon, Maryland preserves the portrait of Early American pioneer life.  Mount Vernon mill is a historic cotton mill in Baltimore consisting of three brick buildings.  Situated along the waters of Jones Falls, it was built in the late 1800s alongside of a long sparkling stream.  The flowing waters of Jones Falls are, at one point, impounded to create Lake Roland, but do continue on as a creek.  Jones Falls’ creek gurgles through Baltimore and eventually empties into the Baltimore Inner Harbor.

Lake Roland is surrounded by the airy grasslands of Robert E. Lee Park and is fed by two smaller streams, Towson Run and Roland Run.  Lake Roland is rich in indigenous wildlife, songbirds and fish. Cradled on each side by rambling country houses, Lake Roland is nestled between crests of hills that elevate a scenic vista of the lake and national park.  Also known as the Woodbrook area, this is a perfect location for natural and outdoor wedding photographs. Beautiful canopies umbrella the walking trails woven through the park and lead to the watery shores of both Lake Roland and Jones Falls, making the trek with photography equipment as easy as a walk in the park.

If you are more of a city-loving couple, downtown Baltimore is historical record of early American designs in architecture.  St. Alphonsus’ Church and Convent, also known as the St. John Neumann Shrine is an old world Roman Catholic Church complex sculpted in Gothic detail, and featuring a 4-stage bell tower topped with a skyward spire. Baltimore’s city limits extend as far as the harbor where a massive urban renewal project has enhanced the vibrant waterfront.  This seaport showcases its famous market area, a National Aquarium, the Maryland Science Museum, Davis Planetarium and Oriole Park, the famous baseball stadium.

The urban area is a pleasing blend of history, quaint shops, high-end eateries, seaside pubs and century-old Inns.  Maryland is a delightful mixture of lavish wealth and eclectic cultural creativity in both design and use of space.
