The Baptist Liberation Celebration, on May 5, 2009, was hosted by Her Excellency Ambassador Glenda Morean-Phillip, the Ambassador for the Republic of Trindad and Tobago. MorningStar Photography had the honor of being there to photograph the event.
The low chant of the congregation was felt, singing praises unidentifiable, but full of glee knowing that their worship and praise was being heard. The beat was contagious and you wanted to move along with the rhythm; the colors of their robes and headpieces were brilliant.
From young adults to elders, all ages attended the glorious thanksgiving – their glorious thanksgiving. The ringing of the bells was so loud that it startled; the continuous beating of the drums, held by this energetic teenager, the clanging of the tambourine, the songs they sang, gave me time to listen from my heart.
It was a great pleasure to photograph their worship and give praise, their renewing thanks to others. The room was filled with open hearts and minds. I couldn’t help but get lost in it.
I was in the middle of the isle, photographing up front. I didn’t notice that one of the priests were heading briskly toward me, sprinkling holy water. There was no room to move other than to the back as fast as I could. It looked like I was running away.
